The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Though I've heard quite a lot of good things about Marie Lu's Legend trilogy, I haven't actually gotten around to reading it. I have no experience with her writing and I'm usually not one to get super excited about a book that doesn't even have a synopsis yet (unless, of course, it's written by an author I absolutely love). The Young Elites is an exception. As soon as I read that this book was described by the author herself as a cross between X-Men, Assassins Creed 2, and Game of Thrones, I had to have this book. My brain cannot even imagine how epic this book can potentially be.

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Where Have I Been?

My last post was April 8th. Three whole months ago. I have completely neglected my blog in the last few months and there is absolutely no denying that. The truth is, I had a lot going on in my life that took time away from blogging and, most importantly, reading. The biggest of these said things was the MCAT. Yes, I am taking the MCAT this Saturday and hopefully I will get into medical school (fingers crossed) but in order to focus on studying for this major test I had to give up reading time.

 Trust me, it wasn't easy. I can barely believe that I made it this far. Well, actually that's not totally true. I read a few books since my last review but I just never reviewed them. I read six books in that time, mostly in April and none in May and June, and looking back at them I think I should have probably posted something because they're all pretty popular books.

Yup, that happened.

But guys! That was honestly one tough test of self-restraint because it took all my will power to not pick up one of the books off my bookshelf that have been waiting to be read for so long. These are really hyped, popular, well-liked books too. Top-of-my-to-read-list books. Good news is that I just have to make it to noon on Saturday. Stay focused on the test until then and as soon as I get home afterwards I will be getting back to my books. I kind of sort of started Anna and the French Kiss already so I might just finish that first or I might not be able to keep myself away from The Fault in Our Stars any longer. I guess I'll find out in two days.

Anyway, that's a little update on what has been happening in my life that has been keeping me away from Brain on Pause. I will be back to blogging ASAP. I promise.
